This vintage gilded Art Nouveau mirror is a refined example of early-20th-century American decorative craftsmanship. Its softly octagonal silhouette and gently rounded corners reflect the lingering influence of Art Nouveau’s organic geometry, while the restrained ornamentation signals the transitional moment between late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco sensibilities.
The original gilded wood frame features subtle floral and foliate reliefs at the crest and along the vertical rails—decorative details that feel sculptural rather than ornate, allowing the form itself to remain the focal point. The warm, time-softened gilding has developed a nuanced patina, with areas of wear that speak to its age and authenticity without detracting from its elegance.
The mirror retains its original glass, manufactured by Central Glass Co., whose stamp on the reverse dates the piece to February 8, 1932. Light silvering, faint scratches, and subtle imperfections are consistent with early-20th-century mirror production and contribute to its historical character.
